Generation Green
Halton Youth - Taking Climate Action Now!
Generation Green is a youth-led initiative with the goal to engage Halton students in climate action leadership and support them in their commitment to greenhouse gas emission reductions, in order to drive change and action in their communities. Designed for youth by youth, students are provided with the tools, resources, and inspiration to reduce Halton’s carbon footprint.
The program launched at the Generation Green Youth UN Conference, where students were introduced to their community projects. The focus was on learning how to measure greenhouse gas emissions.
Students who joined Generation Green were asked to implement an initiative which reduced their greenhouse gas emissions.
This year’s theme was Climate Justice.
The 2021 Generation Green Virtual Youth Conference was designed by 55 youth stakeholders and 3 youth mentors, with the goal of engaging students in climate justice and supporting them in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, to drive change and action in our communities.
This year’s theme was Active Transportation.
Transportation is one of the leading contributors of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in Halton and around the world. Youth took climate action to help transform our cities into walkable, safe, accessible, and sustainable spaces for everyone. On April 25th, we celebrated our achievements at the Generation Green Project Showcase.
This year’s theme was Collective Impact.
Mobilizing Collective Impact through Community Climate Action aims to raise awareness about communities’ shared responsibility to take climate action – this work must remain intergenerational, intersectoral, and inclusive.
Collective Impact supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including an increasingly important climate action goal – to leave no one behind.
We are excited to announce that this year’s theme is Food Sustainability!
With the global population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, sustainable agricultural practices become paramount. Climate change’s impact on agriculture, coupled with the shocking fact that one-third of all food produced is lost or wasted, calls for urgent action.
